The Milan Malpensa International Airport is Lombardy’s main airport and is located in the province of Varese, approximately 50 km from the Lombardy capital. With its many connections, Malpensa is Italy’s second busiest airport after Rome Fiumicino. Malpensa is a modern, efficient airport with two terminals offering full facilities.
Terminal 1 is used by scheduled, charter and low-cost flights connecting Lombardy to more than 50 destinations worldwide, whilst Terminal 2 is used exclusively by EasyJet. Located in the north-western part of Lombardy, Malpensa is chosen not only by travellers from Lombardy but also from Piedmont and Switzerland.
The airport is well connected to the Lombardy capital via the Malpensa Express railway line or through numerous shuttle bus services. There are also connections to other Italian regions, to the main ski resorts in northern Italy and to Switzerland. For those travelling by car, the airport is easily accessible from all directions thanks to the A4, A8 and A36 motorways.
The Milan-Linate International Airport is Lombardy’s third airport after Malpensa and Bergamo Orio al Serio. It has connections to major Italian cities and short-haul European destinations. The airport has a single terminal, but has been recently refurbished and now presents itself as a modern airport with full facilities.
Linate is just 8 km from Milan city and is accessible by various bus services. There are numerous connections not only to major Lombardy cities but also to Livigno and many other northern Italy ski resorts. In addition, special buses connect the airport to both Malpensa Airport and Bergamo Airport. Linate is easily accessible by car as it’s located right near the Milan Eastern Ring Road exit, which is well connected to the A1 and A4 motorways.
The Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport is located in the province of Bergamo, approximately 50 km from Milan, to which it is well connected by bus, train or motorway. Bergamo airport is also just 5 km from the centre of Bergamo, whose walls of Venetian origin are part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Orio al Serio is one of Italy’s main airports and a key operational base for Ryanair. Given its excellent location and outstanding facilities, the airport is widely used by travellers not only from Lombardy but also from neighbouring regions. The airport is easily accessible from major north-east destinations as it’s located right near the motorway exits of Bergamo and Seriate on the A4 motorway.
Thanks to several low-cost carriers, the airport boasts connections to many Italian, European and international cities with numerous seasonal flights that increase during the summer period. The airport also has several bus lines providing connections to major Lombardy and Veneto cities and various ski resorts in the north.
