Bergamo Orio al Serio International Airport (IATA code BGY), also known commercially as Milan Bergamo Airport, is one of Italy’s principal airports after Rome Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa and Venice. The Bergamo terminal is served by numerous **low-cost carriers** and connects to many cities across Italy, Europe and beyond. It’s also home to one of Ryanair’s operational bases.
Named in 2011 after the celebrated painter Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio, the airport lies just 5 km from Bergamo city centre. Thanks to its **strategic location**, Bergamo Orio al Serio attracts travellers not only from Lombardy but also from neighbouring regions. The airport has a single terminal housing shops, bars, restaurants, traveller services, pharmacies, car hire desks and parking facilities.
From Bergamo Airport you can easily reach the city centre as well as other parts of Lombardy and northern Italy. The airport is approximately **5 km from the city centre**, 50 km from Milan, 55 km from Brescia and 40 km from Lecco.
Given its proximity to the city centre, there are several ways to reach Bergamo from the airport. Transport links between the city and the airport terminal are provided by **bus services**, private transfers and car hire.
ATB (Azienda trasporti Bergamo) operates the Airport Bus service connecting Orio al Serio International Airport to the city centre, with stops at the railway station, “Bergamo Bassa” and finally the funicular that goes up to “Bergamo Alta”. The service runs daily every 20 minutes.
Tickets are available at authorised retailers (tobacconists, newsstands, bars), ATB Point offices, automatic ticket machines, via the ATB Mobile app or online.
